Journey to Killarney

28 Jun

We started our journey to Killarney yesterday.

They said that there may be a little bit of wind, but not too much, so off we went.
…I don’t know what we did to offend those cranky weather gods, but they had it in for us…

Throwing up our hands in disgust, we pulled into a lovely sheltered inlet and had a bit of lunch (hoping that those pesky winds would blow themselves out)…

We kept glancing out at the open water and checking on the wave height. At just before 5 pm we decided to ‘stick our nose out’ and ‘give it a go’…

…what a bad idea!

…so we snuck into Gun Barrel Inlet (cool name, hey?), dropped anchor and shared a peaceful night with a couple of loons (no, not loonies — loons – the birds, mate!). Have a look…

This morning we heard a fellow trawler, Oceanus, making the same journey. After consulting her captain regarding the winds/waves we battened down the hatches (not really, since they’re always ‘battened’ as a matter of course) and set out once again for Killarney….

….and, woo-hoo!, we made it!
Once I’ve completed my report to you my good friends, I hope to persuade my intrepid captain to take me out for a celebratory dinner (and maybe even a beer or two, what do ya’ reckon?).

Always amuses me that seastate bouncy and bloody annoying or sometimes downright scary always comes out as a bit of a ripple in the photos.

What a beautiful sunset at the beginning of the day! And a good looking marina at Killarney (good Irish name that)
