Midland Harbour Marina/Killbear Marina via the Southern Georgian Bay

24 Jun

Midland Ontario is a pretty town.

They like to decorate their buildings with all kinds of murals.

Boyd and I lucked out and stumbled upon a pricey but excellent wood-fired pizza place, so the evening was quite a success.

Morning came and we discovered that the town (and Bushranger) had been invaded by bugs!

I asked one of the locals and they explained that one week a year the ‘fishfly’ shows up and covers the place. They don’t bite or buzz – in fact this gent said that they only live for 24 hours and don’t even eat anything. He called them essentially ‘fish food’. I called them ‘a mess’ and spent way too much time picking them off Bushranger’s hull.

Anyway, while I picked them off the hull, Bushranger proceeded into the Southern part of the Georgian Bay.

Mannnnnn, there are a lot of rocks in this Bay!

We wove our way along the eastern shore, careful to stay in the marked but sometimes very narrow channels (and, I’ve got to say, those green and red Canadian channel buoys are small and sometimes very hard to see!) until finding ourselves at the Killbear Marina.

What a nice spot – very peaceful.

Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us “Couch Potato Looper Wantabees”…When I was a child and we had a cabin at Pickwick Lake, the same bugs visited us every year…We called them Mayflies and that was the best time of year to go bass and bream fishing along the shore. Be safe and watch out for rocks…

So great to hear from you! …I thought that they might be junebugs (since it was June) but the gent said ‘nope’…whatever, they were a pain in the butte!

The murals looked quite beautiful. But forget about those bugs! Yuk! Luckily, they only appear for one day.
