We’re in the Land of Fairytales

9 Aug

Have you ever read Washington Irving’s tale of Rip Van Winkle?

No!?! Well, it’s about a gent who wanders into the woods (to escape a nagging wife) only to find some thirsty and accommodating gents playing a game of ‘nine-pins’ (think ‘bowling’). Being a particularly social guy, Rip joins in the festivities. After enjoying himself immensely, Rip decides to take a bit of a nap. Unfortunately, his nap takes slightly longer than planned and he wakes up more than 20 years later – looks like Rip slept straight through the American Revolution. As you can imagine, Rip has a few adjustments to make when he finally gets back to his village.

Why am I telling you about Mr. Irving’s fairytale? It happens that Bushranger is docked in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, where Rip took his long nap…

They’ve even named a bridge after our pal Rip…

It’s a beautiful place; lush, green and peaceful.  It’s very easy to imagine taking a bit of a nap under these huge oak trees…

For now, I’m enjoying my kitchen with a view…

…my Guinness bread is ready to be put into the oven. Maybe afterwards I’ll take a bit of a nap…

What an idyllic place to take a nap or bake some bread!
