Lady’s Island Marina, South Carolina

Lady's Island

We are sitting in a small and quiet marina, in a not-so-well-known US state, cossetted between sea grasses and mud, bobbing to the rhythm of both wind and tide, with wide smiles on both our faces.

We have discovered an enclave of the most wonderful folks.  From the couple aboard the neighboring trawler who were waiting when we pulled in to help secure our lines, to the couple from the sailboat who volunteered to pick up the laundry detergent I neglected to buy at the supermarket, to the gents who grabbed Bushranger’s lines and helped swing her around in anticipation of a potentially awkward early morning departure, to the harbor master who found out I love gelato and ran down to a local shop to surprise me with the icy sweet (it was sea salt caramel and it was AMAZING!) — this marina seems to have collected all kinds of strange and wonderful folks.  It is absolutely chock-full of kind and considerate people.

Thank you Lady’s Island Marina. I will remember this place for a very long time…and the memory will make me smile.
