Still Chuggin’

4 Sep

Bushranger is chuggin’ along just fine, but my silly computer has decided it’s all too much! So, after much angst, I have uploaded some photos of where we’ve been these last few days, but don’t expect too much connectivity until I can get this silly computer sorted.  Anyway, boating is good, river is good, weather is good, harbors are great, but computer’s just *$#*!!!

Ssssooo…..when we last left Bushranger, she was happily sitting in Florence Alabama. Well! She has learned SO much since then! The day she left Florence was the day she transited her first lock…and BOY IT WAS A BIG ONE!!! The Wilson Lock is the largest in the Eastern US — hundreds of feet deep!…

Looks like the entrance to hell, doesn’t it…

…into the mouth of the demon…

lassoed the bollard

…tie up along side lots of yucky walls…

…lasso that bollard…

…and be very ready to push our little boat away from those yucky walls…

After we made it through  the Wilson Lock, we then had to do it all over again at the Wheeler Lock (but by then we were feeling like pros so no worries).

We proceeded on to Joe Wheeler Park, a beautiful park filled with of green trees and wildlife (I saw 10 deer when I went jogging).

The next morning we were off again to Decatur Alabama and it was again a beautiful sail (although we kept glancing over our right shoulder at a very suspicious black cloud that seemed to be following us up the river…but she never caught us, thank goodness). We even got to go under a cool railroad bridge…

…they had to raise that huge bridge up just for little’ol Bushranger… that’s cool!!…

Now, we are again underway, looking to get to Ditto Landing in Huntsville Alabama (where I hope to spend some time getting that stupid computer fixed — so wish me luck)

…signing off for now…

So happy for you both and your little boat that your journey has really begun. It is so much fun keeping up with you on your blog. Watch for Monarch butterflies on the mud flats…They too are heading south for the winter..

So great to read about and see pictures of Bushranger finally “doing her thing” and doing it well! Here’s to many great adventures and smooth sailing waters!

Great to hear about your travels with Bushranger. It’s good to have the refit behind you and be out on the waterways! Looking forward to hearing the continuing adventure.

Well, remember this is just the shake down cruise, so don’t be surprised if we end back in Iuka for a tweak here and there.

CONGRATULATIONS on manoeuvring through your 1st lock! I would never doubt that you 2 skilled sailors couldn’t do that! ha ha But all things are scary the first time aren’t they?! It’s all “plain sailing” now as they say! Lotsa <3<3<3<3 🙂 🙂 Barbie xxx
