Puzzles Named “Muffler”

17 Aug

Boyd has been working on the muffler this week.  Now, I used to think that “a muffler’s just a muffler”…and what’s the big deal?  Well, let me tell ya’, a muffler’s a conundrum, wrapped in an enigma…and VERY determined to stay that way!

I have no idea if I choose the most representative photo of the "muffler disconnect", but I gave it my best shot.

Remember, we changed Bushranger’s engine way-back-when; and the new engine is a different “size” (in just about every way you can imagine).  So, getting the new engine to connect with the part of Bushranger that allows exhaust out of the boat (i.e. the equivalent of Bushranger’s tailpipe) is via the muffler. …and that muffler is determined to remain independent! Boyd has looked at this ‘disconnect’ from every angle and has determined that he needs a bit of guidance.  So, thank goodness for the internet and the various boating chat-rooms. He has taken some photos of the recalcitrant muffler, and penciled together a diagram, and he is going to ask the advice of all those ‘experts’ that sit on-line, in chat-rooms.

There ya’ have it…that’s it for now.

    Boyd,

You can buy a flexible steel coupling to connect the pipes if that is the problem. I have one on the tractor and will forward a photo.

    Cheers,

    Ward

Thanks Ward. I’ll forward that to Boyd. Hope all is well. Love to Lin!
