In and Out

6 Nov

Today was a big day – and not really…

Believe it or not, Bushranger actually sat in the water today.  Now, mind you, I’m not saying that she actually floated (she was gently nestled in the water with her slings secure around her hull) but she DID get her bottom wet….for all of about an hour. Here’s what happened:

We decided that she was ready to swim.  Boyd had secured all the thru-hulls, all the potential problem areas, readied the new bilge pump, and coordinated for the lads at the marina to bring over the BIG LIFT…

She was gently raised…

…then transported over to the water…

…and down she went…

…Boyd went onboard to check to see how she was faring…

…and she wasn’t as dry as we hoped…she had A LEAK!

Boyd got a bit sad when he discovered the leak!

…so up she came…

(the spot wasn’t empty for very long)

…back to her old spot on the hard-stand…

…Boyd then spent the rest of the day correcting the problem (the leak was at the forward end of the prop shaft)…

(very wet…)

We’ll see if she is ready to try again in a few days. On the positive side, at least we now know that the bilge pump works!

The lads at the marina have suggested that the water may have been a bit too cold for her….hummmm…. she is an Aussie boat, after all…

A sensible approach. Far better than just hoping… Not long now
