Multiply Your Time Estimate by At Least Four

6 Sep

So, you think installing that specific little doo-hickie will take about two hours?  Think again!  If you think two hours, it’s probably going to take at least eight! Everything takes longer than you think!

For example, installing a toilet… we have a toilet made by a company named Jabco. So, we thought, when fixing it and upgrading it, it would be best to use only Jabco parts (makes sense, right?!?).  Of course Jabco would make sure all the parts fit together properly…wouldn’t they?

Well, think again, Buck-o! Why is it that the pump fitting is 5/8th of an inch, while the outlet water hose is 3/4th of an inch? What’s the deal!?! How is that supposed to fit together?!?

But, ya’ know, my very clever husband figured out how to fit it all together (with a lot of sweat and a bit of imagination).  This is what we ended up with:

He has also connected up the wash-down pump (it’s the pump that takes the water from the lake/ocean and pumps it up to wash the anchor and upper deck area).

…and remember that steering pump that was leaking all over the place in the lower helm?  Well, he’s cleaned up the mess the old pump made and removed that offending pump and replaced it with a lovely new pump.

Finally, he’s tackling the electrical switchboard.  It was a mess (with old wires that go nowhere). He has painted the switchboard compartment and is in the process of sorting out all those wires.

And, what’s the status of the engine, you ask? Well, we just got the support rails back from the Prop Shop gents.  They have modified the rails so the engine bolts will (hopefully) fit onto Bushranger’s stringers (remember, the stringers are essentially Bushranger’s backbone). Only time will  tell…but expect it to take a whole lot longer than you think.

Since everything takes longer than you think, than I think you two should take even longer to relax and “loop” to your hearts content when Bushranger is ready to go. Good times on the “high seas” are a comin’.

Oh, man, Howard…without a doubt, this would make a good comedy! By the way, you might want to check out my other blog whatdoyareckon.wordpress.com since in the latest entry I mention you and Robyn.
