22 May

Ya’ know how, for the past ump-teen months, Boyd has been ‘following the drips’? What I mean is that every time there was a heavy rain, Bushranger would have a bit of water in it. Now, don’t get me wrong; 30 year old boats will pretty much always have a bit of water in them after a heavy rain. However, Boyd has been doing his best to track any and all leaks back to their source, and fix them.  However, there has been a very stubborn drip that has, until now, eluded us. And, what do ya’ know, today we hit the jackpot!

I was just doin’ my thing…

…just removing old caulk from the hull in preparation for the new caulk we will be applying, when I noticed that the old caulk was looking as bit ‘sus’. So, I dug a bit more, and guess what I found? You guessed it, a lovely little gap under the old caulk that was allowing water to sneak through! That bit of old caulking was allowing drips of water to enter and gently wandered down a seam to where we kept finding the small puddle that was constantly frustrating us. So, ta-da! I win! The next step is to patch up that gap then re-caulk it. Too easy! Good bye puddle.

We have also made strides into our fiberglass program.  Today, Billy Jack, our fiberglass expert, started working on a few bit and pieces.

…Billy Jack, the man who is going to take care of the fiberglass…

So, I think you can say that it was a pretty good day.

Boyd has always had a lot of experience with drips – I’m surprised he couldn’t fix it himself!! Had luch with Nick Richards, Graeme Bridges and Paul Summers on Mon. Nick has another book in the wind – but with lots of sex this time. He read a section from the manuscript while we were at lunch – lucky not to get thrown out of the restaurant!! Enjoy te voyage

Yes, it sounds like a good day. And I bet it is nice to have another set of hands to help on those drips.
