It’s Only May and It’s Bl**dy Hot!

20 May

Oufff, it’s hot! Boyd and I have been working on the exterior of the boat (the bridge to be precise). We have been pulling up old caulking, scrubbing the fiberglass and wood, and then re-caulking.  It turns out that caulking is a two-man job. After preparing the surface (which seems to take hours of scraping and scrubbing), one person dispenses the caulk while the second starts the process of smoothing and tidying up. That works just fine while the sun is behind the trees, but gets unbearable when the sun hits the bridge.  So, this morning, Boyd and I decided to skip our normal morning routine (tea, toast, porridge (that’s oatmeal to you Yanks out there), coffee, gym, then boat) and go directly from tea/toast to boat (to catch as much of the shade as possible). Worked fine for about 2 hours, then it got HOT! So, we retreated back to the cabin to sit on the swing on the veranda and consume our beverage of choice.

…which was a much better idea…

We have yet to determine if we will go back out to the boat when the sun starts to go down – I mean, what’s the rush? We’re retired, right? Life is too short to sweat, if you ask me.

Thanks, Dianne. It is coming along slowly. Amazing how much we’ve learned so far! Hope all is well in FL.
