Tying Up Loose Ends

…there’s lots to figure out…beer and pizza will help…

We were back on the road again. This time we went to Florida. We were getting ‘our ducks all lined up’.

I’ve got to say, renting out your home, sticking all your furniture and stuff in storage, with the intent of living on your boat, is all well and good; however, there is quite a bit of paperwork required. For example, if you no longer have a permanent ‘abode’, where do you register your car? Where do you vote? How do you even get mail?

Actually, the answer to the last question helped us figure out all the others.

Boyd did a lot of research on what other “Loopers” have done for their mail (remember, “Loopers” are the folks that buy a boat then travel around the US in a big loop – for example, they travel up the intra-coastal waterway from Florida to New York/Canada, over to the Great Lakes, down the middle of the country using various rivers and waterways, popping out at the Gulf of Mexico and completing the loop in Florida). Boyd found a service, created by a boater for boaters, that collects your mail, forwards the envelopes to you or scans them to your computer, and will even open the mail if you choose. It’s a great service! It gives you an address other than your boat – as I am sure you realize, boats are not the best address, given that most boats (other than our current Bushranger) have a tendency to move around a lot. This mail service also helped us straighten out the rest of our admin (like our car registration and domicile). So, we are now able to focus all our attention on getting Bushranger sea-worthy.

I would like to sign off with a quote we saw on a sign outside a small church near the town of Troy, Alabama:

“A closed mouth, gathers no foot”

…words to live by…

Love your quote! and glad that the “admin” went smoothly. Could see you and Boyd starting a support business for boat owners.
