They’re In (Sort Of)…

3 Apr

Today is a big day; the new fuel tanks are IN the boat! What a process!

…and they are two HUGE tanks!

The two tanks, each able to hold 150 gallons of diesel fuel, are now residing on either side of Bushranger’s engine room. It was relatively easy to get them into Bushranger (with the help of quite a few of the gents from the marina) but securing them in place in the engine room is turning into a bit more of a challenge.

The tanks were designed around the shape and dimensions of the old (and leaky) tanks.  However, even though the tanks are the perfect size, the boat’s hull is not the perfect shape.  What I mean to say is that Bushranger was built by hand back thirty some years ago, and her surfaces are not exactly level. So, Boyd is in the process of designing a few more supports for the tanks to compensate for Bushranger’s uneven surface.

….but it is still a milestone, and we plan on celebrating with a glass of wine (or maybe a well deserved beer) at dinner tonight.

Great to see you guys are all tanked up and getting closer to the ultimate journey. Been a pleasure following your progress. Hope it all remains fun and exciting and that early retirement is what you thought and hoped it might be. Warm regards from Dumi and me! Bill Martin

Thanks Bill and Dumi. We’re still a long way from getting ‘Bushranger’ in the water, but it feels good to be putting things into her, rather than taking things out.
