Hello, Iuka…We’re Back

16 Feb

Well, we are now officially gypsies! We packed up all our worldly possessions, stuck them in storage, and wandered down to beautiful Iuka Mississippi. Of course, instead of being homeless, we happen to be ensconced in a lovely three bedroom cabin overlooking scenic Pickwick Lake. After all, how can we be expected to concentrate on fitting out Bushranger if we are not happily settled ourselves? And, BOY, ARE WE SETTLED. This place is GORGEOUS!

…our beautiful living room…

…and a huge kitchen to play in….

…which is not something I can honestly say about Bushranger right now…

Notice the pool of water in the left side of the photo, pulling down the tarp.

They don’t make tarps like they used to…

Remember, when we last left Bushranger, we had her trussed up nice and tight with huge tarps and ropes to protect her from the rain/winds/snow. Unfortunately, the weather gods were tougher than we anticipated. We took a peek at ‘Bushranger’ yesterday – her tarp is torn, some of her ropes have snapped, there is a big pool of water on her aft deck, and (blush, blush!) her decking is exposed on her port side! Boyd and I took one look at her and quickly retreated to the safety and comfort of our cabin knowing that the refit fairy probably hadn’t fixed everything while we were gone. We definitely need a game plan for her refit – before we left in December we only had a broad idea of what needed to happen. Now we have new fuel tanks waiting, a new engine arriving any day and a lot of stuff to get through!… so much for the refit fairy….

But it’s not going to happen today. Today, my poor captain/mechanic/swabby has the sniffles. So, he gets to rest, eat chicken soup, and enjoy the view of the lake.

Bushranger will just have to take a back seat for a while. After all, she’s waited this long for love and attention; she can certainly wait another couple of days.
