Happy New Year from Bushranger!

Aqua Harbor Marina, in Iuka Mississippi

Well, we made it to 2012. I have to admit, 2011 was an eye-opener.  The little trawler, Bushranger, came into our lives and demanded quite a bit of our attention. Bushranger is now sitting up on blocks in Iuka Mississippi with essentially no innards (this is actually a bit of an exaggeration, since the cabinets are still in the kitchen, both staterooms still have the bed frames, and many of the electronics are still installed). So, since 2011 was the year when Bushranger cleaned herself up, 2012 will be the year that she ‘bulks up’! Starting in mid-February, Bushranger will see the installation of her new fuel tanks, her new (actually, slightly used) engine, new kitchen (I know, I know, it’s a galley!!), new holding tank, new floors (in the bathrooms/heads), new wall treatments (goodbye to the wallpaper and paint that have covered the teak walls), new mattress, and a host of new gadgets. We will also be fixing the fiberglass hull and the mast (we noticed rust and a crack at the base of the mast when we lowered it in November). This all starts again next month.

So, in the mean time, my lead mechanic/engineer/navigator/Captain/swabbie, Boyd, is recovering from sticker-shock (you wouldn’t believe how much fuel tanks cost!) and is letting his overworked hands and shoulders heal before he has to slip on his overalls and start ripping out more woodwork.

Anyway, we look forward to a fresh start for 2012 and hope that all our friends will keep us in their thoughts (and keep their fingers crossed that we are on the road to launching this boat in the not-too-distant future). Have a wonderful New Year, everyone!

Here’s to an exciting new 2012, and may Bushranger behave herself and quickly “fall into order.” Spring is a comin’!
